Population and Jobs

This map shows where people live and work in 2015 and 2050. Population and Job estimates are summarized to Travel Analysis Zones (TAZs) which are spatial units used in travel modeling and analysis.

Use the buttons on the side panel to select the data you want to view. Data selection options include:
  • Year: 2015, 2050, or Change to view the difference between 2015 and 2015.
  • Measure: Population, Jobs, or Jobs + Population
You can also add additional context layers under “Map Layers”.

These estimates were developed by the San Francisco Planning Department using the City’s land use database, US census data, and jobs data from Dun & Bradstreet. The 2050 forecast is based on the projects in the City’s development pipeline, and additional new housing and jobs based on the City’s housing and office production goals and policies, existing and potential land-use regulations and plans, and the development potential of under-utilized sites.
